Visitors to Paint Lake Lodge can enjoy a short drive south to Pisew Falls located on the Grass River, or north to Mystery Mountain for some downhill skiing, As well as day trips into Thompson for shopping or to visit the zoo, museum and sights. Did you know that Thompson has the largest fully integrated Nickel mine in the world? You will find the many hand painted wolf statues with 18 points of interest and Canada’s largest photo-real mural of Robert Bateman’s painting “Wolf Sketch” done by muralist Charles Johnston.
Heritage North Museum
Other favourite attractions include the Heritage North Museum where you will be introduced to the Aboriginal peoples of Northern Manitoba, and the surveyors, fur traders and mining families who have made this land their home. The natural history of the area is illustrated by a geology exhibit as well as a Boreal Forest diorama.
Spirit Way
A unique walking and biking route highlighting 11 points of interest, wolf statues and the world’s largest mural of a Robert Bateman painting.
Thompson Golf
Be certain to tour the INCO mine, the world’s largest mining complex featuring their mill, smelter and refinery. Guided 90 minute surface tours run regularly throughout the year. Clothing appropriate for an industrial tour and sturdy footwear are required. Special tour arrangements may be made for large groups.
Paint Lake Provincial Park
Manitoba’s largest marina is located at Paint Lake. It offers a lounge, licensed restaurant, convienence store as well as cabin, boat, and canoe rentals. Fishing guides are available upon request.
Pisew Falls
Located approximately 45 minutes south of Thompson. A 0.5 kilometer trail brings you to a viewing platform, perfect for snapping shots of the 13 meter high falls. Also located at the second largest falls in Manintoba is a suspension bridge that spans the lower falls.
